Do "better" irons really make that much difference ?
I consider myself an "ok" golfer. I have tons of room for improvement,though. im not anywhere near where I want to be.My average scores are between 111-115 strokes. Right now Im hitting my 5 iron 180-185 yards, my 7 iron 130-135 yards, 9 iron 115-120yards. I played in high school (I graduated in 2002), and I got back into golf about a year ago. I cant draw & fade....and I consider a great backspin shot "lucky". Right now Im playing with a Dunlop Starter Set (the John Daly SA-95 set) , I upgraded my grips on the entire set.I am using Winn excel oversize soft grips. So, knowing all that you know,now....would I benefit from a more expensive set of irons ? Or should I wait another year or so...until I reach my full potential with the set I have now ?
Well, if you used to play in highschool, than yes. don't get any thin faced or forged clubs though. go with a good set like the r7s or callaway x20s. for you, playability doesnt matter. but those clubs will (r7, x20)will be veryforgiving, especially off mishits. These clubs will be much better than the ones you have now.
